In 2013, a group of young professionals based in the United States, Europe and Nigeria coined the term - Ola Ndi Igbo – “the jewel of the Igbo” and organized the first convening of in Lagos.
• Providing a platform for dialogue, networking and the formation of valuable relationships among the Ola Ndi Igbo
• Fostering a community of individuals of Igbo descent who are proud of their heritage and committed to working collaboratively to promote the social and economic development of the Igbo people.
The people who who participated and were recognized in Ola Ndi Igbo 2013 included Dr. NgoziOkonjo-Iweala, a renowned economist and former coordinating Minister of the Economy in Nigeria, Oluchi Orlandi – a globally recognized supermodel , Kriss Akabusi, a British-Nigerian Olympian and Onyeka Owenu – one of Nigeria’s legendary singers.
Following the event, a range of initiatives were launched to promote development in Igbo land including the creation of an entrepreneurship and vocational training centre for youth in the South-East, a soul searching summit titled OluNdi Igbo and a business training programme for Igbo traders in Alaba Market.
